As Martin Luther King Jr. Day rolls around, I want to take the time to thank my parents for showing me how important education is. Wisdom is the absence of ignorance and wisdom comes when knowledge is compounded with experience. I still have a lot of life left (God-willing) and quite a bit to learn, but knowing that I am on my way is important, too. In a post-Civil Rights era where racism is still significant, true equity is reached when people of all races are educated correctly. Some may have it harder than others, and I admit that I was always given a helping hand, but that doesn’t mean that the goal isn’t obtainable for all. My parents showed me that and I will forever cherish that ideal.
